COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stephanie Wright Byrd, the regional executive for the American Red Cross, will retire on Dec. 19 after a seven-and-a-half-year tenure. She established four blood donation centers, including one in Lancaster, and boosted regional fundraising during her service.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Michael Johnson from Fairfield County Heritage Association will lead a brown bag luncheon on Dec. 11 at noon at the History Center in Athens to discuss Chief Tarhe and the War with Tecumseh. Visitors are advised to arrive early for limited parking (the event is part of the Lyceum Speaker Series).  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fairfield County's annual economic update is scheduled for Dec. 12 at the Workforce Center in Carroll. Nearly 200 community members will join registration and breakfast at 8 a.m. as Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank executive Brian Anderson discusses the region’s growth and future opportunities.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Natural Resources invites local hikers to join the 2025–26 Winter Hike Series featuring 48 naturalist-led hikes in state parks this winter. Participants will receive a limited-edition decal and are advised to check safety guidelines on the ODNR website.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Low-income households can apply now for a one time heating assistance program that will help with energy bills until March 31 — applicants must schedule an appointment and bring income records. The program is offered by the Ohio Department of Development and Lancaster Fairfield Community Action to prevent service interruptions.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lancaster High School head football coach Bryan Schoonover resigned on Monday after five seasons (17-37) as his team struggled with success. He cited off-field challenges, including the recent loss of his father, and said a new voice might better serve the players.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • FCA’s TJ Blair and Fisher Catholic’s Caden Delabar earned first team All-Ohio honors in Division VII football when the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced selections Monday, Dec. 8. Other players from Fisher Catholic, Millersport, and Liberty Union received second or third team honors (per the report).  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
