CRIME NEWS

  • The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office investigated a reported threat at Amanda-Clearcreek High School on Friday morning—collaborating with school officials to ensure staff and student safety—and confirmed there was no danger to the public.  ABC6

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ohio regular gas prices dropped last week to $2.92 per gallon on Monday from $3.01 the week before — making them about 3.7% lower than the national average. The state's price was 7 cents higher than last month's rate and ranged from $2.72 to $3.41 over the past year.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than one million Ohio residents relying on SNAP face a halt in benefits today due to a government shutdown—Gov. DeWine signed an executive order allocating $25M in TANF funds that will support food banks and directly aid about 65,000 Ohio Works First recipients.  ABC6
  • The Fairfield County Auditor’s Office received the Outstanding Community Partner Award from Ohio University Lancaster for its work advancing civic engagement and regional impact. Auditor Carri Brown said the recognition shows strong collaboration with university partners—efforts that support resilient public service.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Fairfield Union Falcons beat the Heath Bulldogs 22-3 on Friday night to earn their first playoff win since 2001 — the team’s strong defense forced two turnovers and kept Heath’s offense to low yardage. The Falcons now prepare for a rematch with New Lexington after a Week 1 loss.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Bloom-Carroll's volleyball team won a tough match in five sets over Shawnee at Hilliard Darby High School on Oct. 30—despite a 20 minute delay from a fire alarm and an injury to senior Sylvia Haughn who returned to play. The Bulldogs now hold a record of 25 to 1 and will face Jonathan Alder or Dover at 1 p.m. in the regional final.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Bloom-Carroll won a 21-14 playoff game over the Panthers after a slow start turned dramatic in the fourth quarter — the Bulldogs tied the score and then took the lead with a run by Kyson Cline. They will travel to play Licking Valley on November 7.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
