COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local food banks are preparing for a surge in demand when SNAP and WIC benefits will pause on Saturday, November 1—following a one-month federal shutdown. Columbus City Council approved a $25,000 emergency allocation to support families who rely on these food programs in Franklin County.  ABC6
  • The Fairfield County Foundation will hold its annual 36-Hour Give fundraising event from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3 and will offer a record $100K in matching funds to boost local nonprofits' donations. Donors must contribute online or in person by 4 p.m. on Dec. 3—each fund receiving a share of the match based on its portion of total contributions.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

  • Walmart will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 27 — the retailer will open for in-store Black Friday deals on Nov 28 and hold three holiday sales events with early online access for Walmart+ members beginning on Nov 13, Nov 24, and Nov 30 for Cyber Monday offers.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from Zumper shows Lancaster apartment listing prices increased as the median rent went up 15% from last year's $1,025 to $1,175 in September (a 7% rise from last month's $1,100) with one-bedroom apartments steady at $950 and two-bedrooms climbing to $1,250.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lancaster area high school runners from four teams and five individuals will compete at the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1st at Fortress Obetz. The Lancaster girls, defending champions in Division I, join Fairfield Union and Fisher Catholic teams as top runners like Harper Allen and Connor Runkle lead their squads.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
