COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Bob Evans is donating $25K to support youth agriculture programs by giving $5K each to the Ohio FFA Foundation, Ohio 4-H and Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation, plus $10K to the National FFA Foundation to benefit local FFA chapters including Lancaster FFA. The donation supports agriculture education in Ohio and Indiana—providing funds for programs and career development in farming. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ohio residents are warned to check trees and outdoor furniture for gray egg masses as spotted lanternflies lay eggs from October to December, according to the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA). Egg masses (about 1.5 inches long and containing 30-50 eggs) may hatch in spring and damage plants, so ODA recommends scraping them off and disposing them in soapy water. NBC4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Daylight saving time will end Sunday, November 2 at 2 a.m. when clocks will be turned back one hour—Ohio lawmakers have urged Congress to make the change permanent. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Fairfield Union boys and girls cross country teams won the Southeast Division III district championship on Oct. 18 at Rio Grande University as Schultz finished first in the girls' race and Runkle led the boys to earn District Runner of the Year honors. Fisher Catholic claimed the District 1 meet to qualify for Division 4 Regionals while Liberty Union posted competitive finishes at the Central District Championships at Hilliard Darby. - ➤ Fans in Lancaster can vote for the Eagle-Gazette High School Athlete of the Week from 6 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Friday+ each fan may vote several times.
