COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lancaster families will keep enjoying the Gift of Time event, a holiday tradition for over 30 years, now led by the Family YMCA of Lancaster and Fairfield County after the former organizer dissolved—local groups and businesses will help with crafts and activities as the event follows the Kiwanis Pancake Festival.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Bremen Garden Club won the Best of Show award for its symmetrical mass design at the fall flower show, Colors of the Wind 175 Years of Fun—held on Oct 6 at the Fairfield County Fair art hall. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in central Ohio dropped 25.2 cents in the last week to average $2.77 per gallon—Columbus stations ranged from $2.22 to $3.19 per gallon. Nationally, prices fell 6.4 cents to $3.02 and analysts expect them to drop below $3 in the coming weeks.  NBC4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio University Lancaster and the Fairfield County Workforce Center are training students and teachers for skilled careers in robotics, automation and manufacturing during Manufacturing Month in October. The programs include bootcamps, certificate options and a $50,000 loaner robot for local high schools — all designed to boost regional manufacturing talent.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lancaster city building is undergoing a year-long exterior renovation—officials have not provided additional details on the project.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fairfield Medical Center completed its 100th WATCHMAN procedure — a small plug is used in the heart to lower stroke risk for patients with an abnormal heart rhythm — which lets local patients get care without having to travel to Columbus or West Virginia.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Fisher Catholic volleyball team finished a 14-0 season to win its Mid-State League-Buckeye Division title and swept Granville Christian Academy (25-20, 25-12, 25-17) in a tournament opener on Oct. 13.   • Fisher Catholic junior setter Erica Sharp recorded her 1,000th career assist during a 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 win over rival Berne Union—boosting the team to a 16-4 record and its fifth consecutive league championship as it prepared for postseason play.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
