COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Harness racing is a longtime event at the Fairfield County Fair—drawing local fans to a beloved tradition.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local high school bands will parade this week in front of the Fairfield County Fair grandstand to show their musical and marching skills—readers of Eagle-Gazette are invited to vote for their favorite band.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • State officials will announce tax credits tomorrow for a Millersport data center project by Vantage that is expected to add 37 jobs and a New Albany packaging operation by Axium Packaging that will bring 70 jobs—both projects must meet economic targets to qualify for the credits. The data center project includes a 10-year tax exemption starting Jan 1 and the packaging facility must operate for at least eleven years.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lancaster City Schools inducted five alumni into its Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame today, recognizing achievements in comics, theater, conservation and business. The honorees span graduating classes from 1939 to 1991—each making a national impact.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A high-pressure system from the Great Lakes brought cool, dry Canadian air to Lancaster this afternoon—raising temperatures to the mid-60s. Clear skies and light winds tonight may cause patchy frost under a frost advisory for northern Ohio—conditions that will ease with mostly sunny skies and warmer weather on Friday.  NBC4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fairfield County Commissioner Steve Davis earned the Leadership in Mobility Award at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission summit on Sept. 30 — his ride-share work in an electric vehicle exposed transit gaps that led to launching The LINK local transit service. Davis said his efforts aim to address key transportation challenges for local residents.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine imposed a 90-day ban on intoxicating hemp products, including THC-infused gummies and beverages, that will take effect Oct. 14 at 12:01 a.m.—lawmakers may review the ban in about 50 days. Businesses affected by the change must return unsold goods to manufacturers or law enforcement.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three high school football teams—Bloom-Carroll, Amanda-Clearcreek and Fisher Catholic—remain in playoff contention during Week 8 as league races intensify across two divisions. Bloom-Carroll and Hamilton Township hold perfect records while Fisher Catholic will host Berne Union Friday, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association released its third official ratings Tuesday to help set playoff seeding.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
