COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 175th Fairfield County Fair opened Oct. 5 at the fairgrounds and marked the start of the event for local families.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in central Ohio increased 13.9 cents in the last week to average $3.02 per gallon—nearly erasing the previous drop and staying 7 cents lower than four weeks ago. GasBuddy predicts that prices across the area may drop below $3 in the coming weeks.  NBC4

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six Fairfield County teens earned top awards for leadership and community service at the Junior Fair Panorama on Oct. 4. The Outstanding 4-H’er Award was given to Samantha Bader, Brianna Downey, Aubrey Duke-Ward, Evelyn Hill, Henry Hoisington and Reagan Thomas — marking their long commitment to the 4-H program.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Reps. Heidi Workman of Rootstown and Adam Mathews of Lebanon introduced House Bill 450 to let pregnant women apply for a temporary windshield placard for accessible parking through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The placard will cost $8, last up to a year, and the bill will go to the Children and Human Services Committee before a Senate vote.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fans can vote in the Eagle-Gazette Athlete of the Week poll—open from 6 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Friday—to choose the top high school athlete as fall sports continue. The winner will be announced soon after the poll closes.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Fisher Catholic football improved to 6 to 1 overall and 4 to 0 in league play after defeating Millersport 36 to 12 on Saturday and will host Berne Union on October 10 at Fulton Field—Liberty Union hosted cross country where Elsie Amlin won the girls’ race and the Irish boys placed second, and Bloom-Carroll soccer won 3 to 2 over Pickerington Central with Mackenzie Haslett scoring twice.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
