ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Ohio rose last week to an average of $3.02 per gallon for regular fuel from $2.84 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration — a year ago the rate was 2% higher at $3.09 per gallon.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fairfield County opened its new secondary 911 center — the Fairfield Unified Dispatch Center — this month to back up dispatch services for Lancaster, Pickerington and other areas; the center uses the same technology as the primary system so dispatchers can quickly take over during emergencies. Sheriff Alex Lape said the facility improves resiliency and can also support special operations if needed.  NBC4
  • Ohio residents can check their voter registration status online and must register by October 6 at 9 p.m.—applications can be completed online, in person at public offices, or by mail while early voting begins on October 7. Voters should have key documents ready for verification.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
