EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine and country singer Zac Brown announced that every hospital in Ohio will now offer signup for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library during birth certificate paperwork—children will get two free books each month until they are 5. The new process is expected to help over 400,000 kids and reach new neighborhoods that were not served before.  NBC4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 11, the Ohio BMV agreed to change its rules for specialty license plates after a lawsuit challenged its limits, letting drivers use words like GAY and MUSLIM that were once turned down+ the bureau will now check which words are not offensive and show online instructions for those whose requests were rejected+ a judge dismissed the lawsuit.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Teays Valley pulled away from the Lancaster Golden Gales at Fulton Field in the OCC-Buckeye opener with a 37—14 win as key turnovers and a missing senior quarterback led the Gales to a third straight loss. Teays Valley put together a strong rushing attack with 234 yards on the ground to boost its conference standing.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Friday's high school football games saw Fisher Catholic defeat Fairfield Christian Academy 20—13 after Sam Tencza intercepted a pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown with 18 seconds left. Berne Union beat Miller 20—18 after both teams tied at halftime and Miller's late two-point try failed to tie the game.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Bloom-Carroll defeated Amanda-Clearcreek 16-6 on Friday in a Mid-State League game as the Bulldogs' strong defense limited the Aces to 117 total yards and forced two turnovers. The offense built the lead with key touchdown runs and a field goal that kept the win in reach during the contest.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
