COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Cities and towns across central Ohio are setting trick-or-treat dates and times for Beggars’ Night this October—when Halloween falls on a weekend, trick-or-treating will be held the Thursday before, and on weekdays it will be on Halloween itself. Lancaster’s trick-or-treat schedule is still to be announced while nearby areas like Coshocton and Galena have confirmed times in the early evening. NBC4
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ OSU Extension advises homeowners to keep their hummingbird feeders up through October so ruby-throated hummingbirds can fuel their migration starting in September. The Extension will sell Farm Science Review tickets until 4 p.m. Sept 15 for the event at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center — also offering tips on freezer meal planning. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Daylight saving time will end on Nov. 2 at 2 a.m., when residents set their clocks back one hour to gain an extra hour of sleep and adjust to shorter days. Ohio lawmakers and Congress have proposed making daylight saving time permanent, but the plan remains pending (legislation under review). Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
- ➤ A new Ohio law will require porn websites to use a third-party service to verify users are 18 or older by Sept. 30 — the check will use photo IDs or transactional data and is part of the state’s two-year budget approved in June. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ohio Department of Health director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff said today that the state will continue to require all kids to get their recommended vaccines even as Florida ends similar mandates—he warned that low vaccination rates can lead to outbreaks of measles and other diseases—. NBC4
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Apartment rents in Lancaster increased 6% from last year's median of $1,039 to a typical $1,100 in August—although prices fell slightly from last month's $1,122 median. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Area high school football teams will start their second league season Friday, Sept 12 as seven of the nine teams join conference play—building on Week 3 wins to chase league titles.
