EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lancaster City Schools posted updates on Facebook about the new Lancaster High School, which will open next fall. Work on the east parking lot, sidewalks, courtyard concrete, classrooms, career technical space, and elevators is progressing—scoreboards for the gym areas have arrived on-site.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio lawmakers introduced Senate Bill 252 to ban declawing cats unless it is medically necessary & the measure would fine owners $1,000 to $2,500, aligning Ohio with places that have already prohibited the practice. The bipartisan bill, sponsored by State Sen. Al Cutrona, State Sen. Hearcel Craig and cosponsored by State Sen. Casey Weinstein, prompts animal groups to stress the use of alternatives like nail caps and scratching posts.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • FHP Cardiology expanded its services by opening a new suite at River View Medical Office Building—2405 N. Columbus St.—to meet rising patient demand in Lancaster. The expansion adds cardiologist Dr. Steven Mould, an electrophysiology team and a heart failure clinic to better serve patients in Lancaster and nearby communities.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bloom-Carroll volleyball beat Watterson 3—0 to improve to 8—0 as Sylvia Haughn recorded 13 kills and Renee Smith tallied 26 assists. Other high school sports results saw Fairfield Christian Academy win the McGowan Invitational in cross country while Lancaster teams competed in golf, soccer and tennis contests.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Fans are voting in the Eagle-Gazette Fan Poll for the top high school athlete, with the vote open from 6 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Friday; nominees include athletes from Fairfield Union, Fairfield Christian Academy, Millersport and Lancaster.
