- ➤ The Ohio Corvette Club Alliance will host its 20th annual Corvette Gathering in downtown Lancaster on Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—participants pay a $20 fee while spectators attend free, and a road tour will run on Sept. 6 from 11:30 to 12:30 starting at Hugh White Chevrolet. - ➤ Fairfield County is planning many events this September that include festivals, scarecrow making and educational hikes for families in Lancaster and nearby areas. The schedule ranges from a bug catching day at Mambourg Park on Sept. 5 to a ghost hunt at the Infirmary on Sept. 19—offering a variety of activities for local residents. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The native pawpaw tree grows in moist, sunny areas and produces a soft, green to yellow-brown fruit that tastes like banana—mango and pineapple. The fruit ripens in late August and lasts about eight weeks as the tree, which has smooth gray bark and a dense pyramid shape, thrives in well-drained soil. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Fisher Catholic's defense forced nine turnovers in its first two games to help the team start 2-0; three of these turnovers were returned for touchdowns. The Irish will host Portsmouth Notre Dame on Saturday at Fulton Field as they aim to extend their winning streak. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
- ➤ Lancaster girls won the Columbus Grove Invitational as Harper Allen lowered her PR to 17:50 and 13 teammates set personal records — Lancaster boys placed third at the Westerville North Classic with Brock Jarrett leading 14 runners to season bests.
