Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 30th of June.
Good morning, Lancaster.
🌲 Environment
Experts say each degree lower on your thermostat costs about 3% more on your energy bill—an extra $3 on a $100 bill—and they advise setting it at 78 degrees as Lancaster faces a rising heat wave.
The guidance comes as high temperatures push air conditioners to work overtime.
🏛️ Government
Amanda officials warned residents on June 29 that personal fireworks use is illegal in the village as Independence Day nears (village ordinance 3-56) and urged attending licensed public displays for safety.
Eligible Ohio residents can apply starting July 1 for electric bill help and cooling equipment under the Summer Crisis Program, which runs until Sept.
30; applicants must provide income proof and energy bills while coordinating with Lancaster Fairfield Community Action.
🏥 Health
Residents are urged by the Fairfield County Health Department to use repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, and check for ticks as Lyme disease cases rise this summer (especially June and July) across the area.
