- ➤ Local farmers markets are starting this summer as Lancaster Farmers Market opens May 3 and runs every Saturday until October 4 on Chestnut Street between Broad and Columbus (vendors accept debit, credit cards and Snap/EBT and leashed dogs are welcome). Canal Winchester Farmers Market will run Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Stradley Park (located at 30 S. High Street) while Pickerington Farmers Market opens on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. starting June 5 in Olde Pickerington Village. Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
- ➤ On May 3, the Millersport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 637 will hold its annual Poppy Day at the Circle K station with Little Miss Poppy handing out poppies and volunteers collecting donations for veterans. The community market will move to the American Legion Building for evening markets starting this month, and the Millersport High School Alumni Banquet is set for May 31—while the Walnut Township Board of Education meets in a special session on May 5. - ➤ Fairfield County Master Gardeners and OSU Extension have collected over 400 donated plants and 100 tomato plants from expert Lise Ricketts for the first-ever Master Gardener Plant Sale, which will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 31 at the #50 Show Arena at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. Keller Market House will host a free canning class — Let's Preserve: Canning Basics — on May 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for those interested in learning water bath and pressure canning methods. - ➤ Ohio lawmakers passed House Bill 15 on Wednesday to end a subsidy that cost ratepayers nearly $400,000 a day for two aging coal plants — Gov. Mike DeWine is reviewing the amended bill before it becomes law. ABC6

- ➤ The Food and Drug Administration recalled bread sold at Ohio Giant Eagle and Market District bakeries due to glass fragments found on top of Ancient Grains hoagie rolls, Multigrain Sourdough rolls, and Whole Grain Multigrain rolls from Upper Crust Bakery sold between April 7 and April 12 — no injuries have been reported and consumers are urged to return or dispose of any recalled bread. - ➤ Trader Joe's is recalling its Sesame Miso Salad with Salmon sold in Ohio and 17 other states because a packaging error led to parmesan cheese crumbles being included instead of crispy onions—around 500 units from Taylor Fresh Foods Illinois have a use-by date of April 28 or 29, so customers with milk allergies should discard the product.
