  • Ohio will plant a commemorative white oak tree in all 88 counties to honor the state's founding and history. Fairfield County Commissioners invite locals to join celebrations at the county fairgrounds near the shelter house at noon on Tuesday, April 28.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Hardee's franchisee filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on April 22, closing 77 locations across nine states with $29 million in debt + local Hardee's restaurants remain open and will later reopen under corporate management.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Ohio fell to an average of $3.68 per gallon for regular fuel on Monday down from $3.85 last week — traders weigh short-term Middle East tensions and rising spring driving demand.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Walnut Township Local Board of Education is set to fill the vacancy left by Thomas Cumbow's resignation as it begins interviews and plans a meeting at 6:00 p.m. May 4 at Laker Learning Center; the new member will serve until Dec. 31, 2027.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp featuring a killdeer is now available for $15 to help fund wildlife conservation and habitat restoration via the Southern Wings program—residents can also join a summer photo contest for the 2027 stamp theme.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • AEP Ohio is rebuilding four miles of transmission lines in Lancaster and has imposed detours, lane and trail closures from April 22 through May 7. The work near South Broad Street and South Memorial Drive will use flaggers plus traffic controls to keep drivers safe.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
