Good morning, Lancaster. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 12th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Friends of Fairfield County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board Committee will hold its annual awards and fundraising dinner at Crossroads Event Center on April 29—honoring Jeannette Curtis, Mark E. Conrad and the Lancaster Police Department Community Services Unit—while featuring a silent auction, art displays and a keynote by Preston Moore.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • A newly discovered comet, SWAN25F, is visible in Ohio on the northeastern horizon just before sunrise until April 14 and many viewers may need binoculars to see it. Amateur astronomers first spotted it on March 29 from Australia and Ukraine (it completes an orbit around the sun every 1.4 million years), marking a rare chance for local skywatchers to view this event.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Fairfield County will decide on May 6 whether to renew a 1.85-mill levy for the Board of Developmental Disabilities—if approved, the levy will cost property owners $40 per $100,000 of assessed value and generate about $7.6 million each year to support services starting in 2026. Early voting is underway with sessions available throughout April and May.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
