COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Thurston Methodist Church will hold its last fish fry during Lent this coming Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Carryout orders require a $13 donation (menu includes fried cod, baked beans or green beans, Au gratin potatoes or french fries, cole slaw or applesauce, rolls and orange/vanilla sherbet).  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio lawmakers are planning cuts that may lower public library funding by replacing the current percentage of tax revenue with a flat amount; library officials warn the change could force branch closures or service cuts—library advocates will gather for Library Day tomorrow at the Statehouse while Governor Mike DeWine defends his budget plan. This change may affect millions of annual visitors who rely on local libraries.  ABC6
  • Ohioans can begin early voting for the May 6 primary today at county board of elections while online registrations require a driver's license number, last four digits of the Social Security number, and address. Voters using absentee ballots must submit an application by April 29 and postmark their ballot by May 5—these measures ensure all votes are counted correctly.  NBC4

SPORTS NEWS

  • The high school baseball season has begun in Lancaster and fans can vote for the Eagle-Gazette Baseball Player of the Year in a poll that opened at 6 a.m. Monday and will run until 5 p.m. Friday—voters may cast as many votes as allowed.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • The Lancaster baseball team beat Teays Valley 9-0 on Monday, improving to 4-0 in the Ohio Capital Conference with standout pitching from senior Darren Ramsey and junior Kam Griffith — their strong start came from early scoring and solid defense.
