EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Ohio University Lancaster Campus will host STEM Discovery Day on May 9 for 350 to 400 students in sixth to eighth grade who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math. Local sponsors support the free event, which begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1:45 p.m.—featuring a keynote presentation by experts from COSI and interactive sessions led by university faculty and industry professionals.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Eastland-Fairfield Career and Technical Schools had 18 students win medals at the 2025 SkillsUSA Ohio Leadership Conference—six earned gold medals and will go to nationals, including a first gold in HVAC. The school also won silver and bronze in events like graphic design and architecture—its winners are set to compete at nationals in Atlanta from June 23-27.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike DeWine signed a law that ends driver’s license suspensions for unpaid fines—starting Wednesday drivers with debt-related suspensions will get a letter with instructions to obtain a new license without paying a reinstatement fee. The Ohio BMV will work with local courts to lift these suspensions by May 9.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • The Fairfield County Auditor received a GFOA award for its Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2024, for meeting high standards for clear financial information. Auditor Carri L. Brown said the report makes county financial data easy for the public to understand and that it will continue next year.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
