CULTURE NEWS

  • The Buckeye Lake Pirate Fest will run from May 15-17 at Big Stan's Bar & Grill in Thornville and features a treasure hunt across 30 locations plus a market with over 100 vendors.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Ohio increased to $2.74 per gallon on Monday from $2.69 last week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration — a year ago, the average price was 10% higher.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fairfield County now accepts Master Gardener training applications; an open house is held Feb. 26 at the Ag Center (831 College Ave) and classes begin late March for $175. OSU Extension will hold free wellness webinars and a pesticide recertification class Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ohio University and Cross Over Community Development graduated a class of community health workers in Dayton today who were trained to improve healthcare access for non-native English speakers—over 500 participants have been trained since 2015 with courses offered online and in person at local campuses including Lancaster.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lancaster boys’ basketball team overcame an early deficit with a strong second-quarter run to defeat St. Charles 55-47 on Feb. 10 & senior guard Davis Call scored 17 points to spark the win. The team will host Canal Winchester on Feb. 13.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
  • Fisher Catholic girls’ basketball clinched their third straight league title after defeating Zanesville Rosecrans on Feb. 9 (58-22), finishing with an undefeated record and a 44-game winning streak while earning the No. 1 seed for the upcoming tournament.  Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
